Grand Theft Auto III Goes Mobile — GTA 3 for iOS and Android Soon
Rockstar decided to make a pleasant surprise for its fans and announced upcoming release of famous Grand Theft Auto III game for iOS and Android. This significant event dated to 10th anniversary of GTA 3 release on PlayStation 2, which took place in Autumn, 2001. So, following the Square Enix that not very long ago announced HD remake of its Final Fantasy X for PS Vita and PS3, one more big game developer decided to start making ports of its classic games to new platforms.
GTA 3 for iOS and Android is promised to be released pretty soon — by this autumn ( exact release date is unavailable at the moment, though ). Unfortunately not every iOS or Android device owner will be capable to play this title: game supports only newest devices with 2-cores CPU's — confirmed compatibility with iPad 2, iPhone 4S, Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy X2, Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This way even iPhone 4 owners can't run mobile GTA 3.
Apparently game port turned out to be pretty expensive in terms of performance requirements, but this isn't something to be surprised about — despite the fact that GTA 3 is pretty old game ( 10 years ), it still uses somewhat "heavy" 3D graphics and this way is a hard nut to crack even for modern smartphones with their multi-core CPU's and GPU's. No doubt that this large world like in the game requires a decent mobile hardware.
Looks like old games porting to new platforms becomes a trend — game developers this way can earn additional money from its good classic titles, while gamers can once more play through their beloved games from the past on new platforms. Many people out there can start complaint to "crisis of creativity and ideas" and blame developers for not making new games, but re-animating old ones, but I personally will be more than happy to play FFX HD, mentioned above, when it will be released.
