Source Game Engine SDK Will Be Available For Free
Following the news about Valve's Team Fortress II becomes F2P, there is one more — Source Engine SDK and modding tools also will be provided for free.
Previously to use Source Engine SDK user should purchase one of the Valve Source-based games like Half-Life 2 or Team Fortress 2, and now it will become free for everyone.
Source Software Development Kit available at the Tools tab in Steam and contains everything you need to develop own mods for Source-based games, including Hammer Lever Editor, model viewers and more.
Accordingly to Robin Walker, Team Fortress 2 developer, there still will be some time before SDK free release, because it was a recent decision and Valve needs some time to organize things and polish it, but it can expected to be released in July.
